I have absolutely no interest in even discussing gun control any more. People miss the point that whether we need a law or not is dependent on how well the population behaves without that law in place. If the over-riding culture means that a law would be superfluous then the law isn't needed. Where a law acts to prevent socially-detrimental behaviour that would otherwise be present, then it's worthy of consideration. That applies to everything whether it's guns, cars or keeping polar bears as pets.
The Swiss get on just fine with a high level of gun ownership, but they have a culture that values social responsibility.
Laws should be there to protect society from the actions of others, not individuals from their own actions. Your skin should be your responsibility, but you can't take responsibility for someone else's behaviour.
