I started writing as soon as I could hold a pencil. Some of my very early stuff is hilarious (I'm talking about 4 yeas old, here). I've been writing so much by hand for so long that the middle finger on my right hand has a permanent deformity in the last joint from the pen resting there.
I'm a competent typist, and can touch-type at around 70 - 80wpm, but there's nothing quite like the feel of nib on paper and the sensation of ink staining cellulose. It's more visceral. It's more like bloodletting.
